With just days left in the campaign, the Canadian federal election has narrowed into a tight race between two clear front-runners. While some voters are eager to continue painting the country red, others are calling for a break from the Trudeau era. One thing’s certain, as echoed by many standing in long lines at advance polls: “This is a very important election.”

It comes at a pivotal moment—geopolitical tensions are rising, challenging Canada’s resilience, sovereignty, security, and prosperity. At the same time, many Canadians are feeling overwhelmed by the high cost of living, from food and housing. Access to healthcare, another pressing issue.

Trump’s re-election in the U.S. has sent shockwaves globally, and Canada, as the closest neighbour and longtime ally, has certainly felt the impact. While Canadian responses have been largely nationalistic, there’s an undeniable awareness that our deep ties with the U.S. also come with economic and political dependencies.

The next government will face tough decisions. Mark Carney brings a steady, experienced hand as an economist—offering confidence in his approach to dealing with the Trump administration and reinforcing Canada’s position. Pierre Poilievre, on the other hand is a long serving politician and presents a compelling case for long-overdue reforms to strengthen the country from within.

Though the race is competitive, it hasn’t descended into deep polarization—and that in itself is a great sign for Canadian democracy.

Voters have solid choices ahead. What matters most is exercising your vote and electing a leader who you believe can help Canada remain strong and united from within and stands strong north true and free to the outside world.
